MOULDING METHODS

 MOULDING METHODS

  1. Bench Moulding
  2. Floor moulding
  3. Pit moulding
  4. Machine moulding
            1. Jolting
            2. Squeezing
            3. Sand slinging

BENCH MOULDING

If the moulding takes place on a bench or a platform then it is called bench moulding.
It is used to produce small-size mould only.
By using this technique operator can perform ramming very easily

FLOOR MOULDING

In this technique, moulding is performed on the floors
It is used to produce medium-sized mould,.
The operator will get fatigued very easily.

PIT MOULDING

Moulding took place inside the pit.
The sand bed which is available in the pit will act as a drag box.
Generally used to produce very large size moulds like machine tool beds, turbine housing, gearbox housing, etc.

MACHINE MOULDING TECHNIQUE

JOLTING

Impact force act in this process.
Uniform ramming does not take place.
The impact force is more at the bottom end(Pattern Impact force + Sand impact force)
In Jolting operation, the mould box along with pattern and moulding sand will be lifted up to certain height and it will be dropped at 120 times/
Due to impact forces ramming will take place. Near the surface of the pattern remaining force will be more when compared to the top surface of the mould.

SQUEEZING

In this technique by keeping the pattern inside the moulding sand force will be applied through a plunger which is given by pneumatic or hydraulic mechanism.
In this technique, the more ramming force will exist below the surface of the plunger when compared to the bottom surface of the mould.
To get the advantage of two processes Jolt-Squeezing is performed by using a match plate pattern.

SAND SLINGING

In this technique, the number of a curved blade will be provided on a rotor which is rotating at a given speed.
Moulding sand will be allowed on to the blades due to velocity of the blades moulding sand will be forced into the mould due to which ramming takes place.
It is used to produce very large size moulds
